Giselle, a frail village maiden and Albrecht, a Duke in disguise, meet and fall in love. Albrecht, already engaged to the Prince of Courtland's daughter, is revealed as having betrayed Giselle. Giselle, almost taking her life by her lover's sword, goes mad and falls dead, dying from a broken heart. The ballet continues in the grave yard of "The Wilis", maidens who have died before marriage. "The Wilis" entice men to dance until their death. Albrecht goes there seeking forgiveness and dances to his almost death!
