In 1960, SBRI was only a dream. It took hard work, sacrifice and dedication throughout the years for such dream to grow to fruition. And now, in celebrating our 50
th Golden Anniversary Season, I am humbly filled with amazement, pride, and appreciation.
Classical ballet has always been my way of life. As a dancer, I felt I could touch audiences and use my talent to provide a meaningful experience in the theater. As a teacher, I have passed on the expression, strength, and beauty that ballet has to offer. I have been able to instill a work ethic that honors responsibility, respect, and self-worth that I have lived by. As a director, I have helped bring a love for classical ballet to our state. It truly amazes me that I have been able to do what I love for 50 years, and that I have been able to touch so many lives. It leaves me speechless when I think of all this company has presented to our state, including over 100 ballets and counting!
It is with great admiration that I have been able to see the SBRI legacy live on through my family and students. I have been able to watch three generations of dancers, artists, and supporters take part in RI's first established civic ballet. Such an emotional time has given me the chance to reflect on fond memories and look forward to the innovative work I know we can expect from this great company.
I want to take this opportunity to personally thank all of you, our patrons of the arts, for your continued loyalty and support. Without you, many of the opportunities we have had would not have been possible. I know this 50
th Anniversary is just the beginning for SBRI's success, and look forward to 50 more years of excellence in the arts!
